Once upon a time....
We all have a story, right? Locker-Land is no different. Let me tell you a little bit about why my husband and I became interested in bees. It all started with an article in the November 2012 issue of Bee Culture magazine. The article was entitled, "A Different Kind Of Beekeeper," and it discussed many of the dynamics of a typical hive along with the story of how one person became interested in bees. For whatever reason, I was totally enthralled with the article. I shared it with my husband, Dave. We toyed with the idea about whether or not we too could become beekeepers. After all, it is one thing to see pictures of bees; it is another to be able to open a hive with thousands of bees. We went to a bee class to learn the basics. It was there that we met a gentleman who was willing to set us up with a couple of packages at a discounted price *if* we would help him work his hives for a weekend. Given that he had nearly 200 hives of his own, this sounded like a perfect opportunity to see if we could do it. Well, guess what? We did it, and the rest is history. We started out with two Carnolian hives of our own in the Spring of 2013. Since that time, we have added hives and lost hives. However, we keep coming back for more. There is so much to learn, but we are committed to doing so. The experience benefits the bees, our community, and ourselves.
